Season is dead – long live the season!

The second quarterfinal between Sweden and Czechoslovakia became exactly the thriller one could expect. The game exploded fifteen minutes into the game when the Czechoslovaks scored on a quick counterattack. Only one minute after, Sweden stroke back by a distinct header from Mikael Ljungblom. The rest of the game became a fruitless hunt from the Swedes for a game-winning goal. The Czechoslovaks defended themselves well and when the last big shot hit the post and went out, it meant that the season was over for the proud Swedish football team. Despite the fact that no one has managed to beat them for 20 consecutive games.

Sometimes football is cruel but that’s also the beauty of it. One man’s loss is another man’s gain. We congratulate our Czechoslovak friends and wish them the best of luck in the semifinal. Sweden FC will now focus on organising the annual award dinner and then start preparing for another exciting season in Bxl Euroleague.

We would like to thank all the supporters, media and the other teams for a great season.

Quarter-final 2:2

Tonight, at Ixelles, it’s time for the most important game of the year. Second quarter-final and just like last year’s clash between the Swedes and the Czechoslovaks, it’s do-or-die. First game ended in a goalless draw which means that Sweden has to win tonight. Another 0-0 draw will take the game to penalties. Kick-off at 21h00, come join us for an exciting game!

Thank you!

Sweden FC would like to express its gratitude and thank all of you who attended the charity event on Saturday. Hats off to all the donators, together we raised almost 3600 EUR in benefit of the reconstruction of Japan after the earth quake. The money will be submitted via the Japanese Red Cross Society.

Sweden won the game 1-0 thanks to Olof Skoog’s well placed toe-kick.

Draw in the first quarterfinal

Claus

On Wednesday night, Sweden entered the playoff by playing Czechoslovakia in the first quarterfinal. The game ended with a goalless draw despite many opportunities from both sides. In the first half the Czechoslovaks created a couple of good chances but the Swedish defence managed to keep a clean sheet.

With no substitutes and several injuries Sweden fought well and 0-0 against an always tough and tricky opponent is a good achievement. The second quarterfinal is played on the 22th June in Ixelles. Don’t miss out!
